What to Include in a Landscaping Quote

A good quote is a scope document, not a number. If two quotes are thousands apart, the difference is almost always in what is written down - and what is not.

What should be itemised

  • Site preparation, excavation and spoil removal
  • Drainage works and where water discharges to
  • Materials by type, size and quantity - not just 'paving'
  • Plant schedule with species, pot size and quantity
  • Turf variety, area and soil preparation
  • Green waste removal and final site clean
  • Stage sequence and expected timeline

Common omissions to ask about

  • Who pays for skip bins and tip fees
  • Whether soil and underlay are included or extra
  • Access allowances if machinery cannot get in
  • Aftercare - watering schedules and any establishment visits

Questions worth asking

Ask who will actually be on site, whether the business is insured, and how variations are approved. A contractor who answers those plainly is usually the one who will finish the job the way it was quoted.
